Ports and Marinas

We assist with the realisation of port expansions or the establishment of new facilities and structures. We have extensive experience in optimising port layouts with regard to wave disturbance inside the port, navigational conditions, and potential sedimentation. We help both clients and contractors to realise their projects, whether it involves advising on climate adaption and flooding or detailed design of breakwaters and rock revetments. We contribute throughout all project phases from met-ocean and numerical studies to the development of layout plans and design of structures. We also assist with the authority approval processes (environmental investigations and approvals) and with supervision and construction management during execution. We utilise a variety of tools such as numerical wave, current, and sediment transport models (MIKE 21 and MIKE 3) as well as our own developed tools to create and build a deep understanding of the project and the physical processes at play. We take great pride in involving all project stakeholders and parties, as well as in creating a common understanding of goals, criteria, technical aspects, and economic and time-critical factors.

Consultancy on ports and marinas

Owners consultancy

Project development, requirements specification, stakeholder engagement, coordination and collaboration with other consultants, preparation of initial cost estimates and operating budgets, tendering and contracting, etc.

Design and tender

We have many years of experience and extensive expertise in the design of breakwaters, rock structures, and scour protection. Preparation of drawings, technical specifications, tender documents (SAB/TAG/TBL).

Authority approvals

General guidance on applicable rules and legislation and input to environmental impact assessments (EIA), etc.

Port layout

Optimisation of port layout with respect to navigational conditions, wave disturbance, sedimentation and requires maintenance dredging. Determination and optimisation of wave conditions at berths and analysis of how often they will be unsafe to operate (downtime).

Numerical modeling

Met-ocean studies to determine extreme and normal wave and water level conditions. Modelling of wave disturbance within the harbour using advanced numerical models, sedimentation of fairways and basins, sediment spill from dredging and reclamation works, accumulation of seaweed, etc.
